YST Child Care Services
The Yankton Sioux Tribe Child Care Services provides child care for parents who are working, attending school, job training, and job search for parents and guardians. Eligibility is determined using a sliding fee scale that calculates the families monthly income and the cost share that families will pay. The YST Child Care will pay a part of these costs and the families are required to pay their share directly to the YST Child Care office. Teen parents, Special Needs Children and Families who are caring for displaced children are priority in determining eligibility. All families from any federally recognized tribe are eligible to apply for services.
The Yankton Sioux Tribe Child Care Services has been helping families with child care cost for the last 20 years. The funding source for this program comes from the Washington DC Office of Administration for Children and Families and is operated under the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
The Yankton Sioux Tribe strives to provide quality child care for the children and families who live on or near the Yankton Sioux Reservation. The goal that the YST child Care program has set is to have all providers licensed in CPR and first aid, have updated immunization, TB skin test, pass a health and safety check at the providers residence, and to conduct background checks and drug testing on providers every six months. The financial reports are due once a year in December. The YST Child Care Services program's goal is to submit our financial reports in November to keep our program in compliance with the federal reporting agencies.
The Yankton Sioux Tribe Child Care Services has an application process with rules and regulation requirements.
The application check list consists of: proof of income, verification of children in protective custody, copies of birth certificates, copies of immunizations for children and providers, written documentation for children with special needs from a Dr. stating why they need special care, current TBV tests for providers, proof of CPR/First Aid training for providers, providers orientation check list, W-9, copies of class schedules.
The provider orientation check list consists of: parental access, parental/provider complaint, parental rights and responsibilities, providers requirements, health and safety, payment rates, and payment procedures.
Applications with rules and regulations will be available at all YST tribal entities as well as the YST website.
The Yankton Sioux Tribe Child Care Services requires all providers to remain in compliance with the YST Child Care rules and regulation while providing child care to the eligible families. Any discrepancies will be referred to the YST Child Care Services Board to determine if that provider/family will remain eligible for services.
